π New Mini Documentary: Your Last Porn Video - In Editing
β° This is how long it took to write: 10 hours 42 minutes
I hated school...
I was the worst student in the class, the one no one believed in, the one they looked at with contempt, "What's he going to be..." π€¨
And I still managed to achieve things that others only dream of... OM, Book Club, Ted Talk, writing a bestselling book, etc.
Make no mistake, I am NOT saying this at all to polish myself or tell you how "special" I am, not even close... β
Rather, it's to show that if a bad student like me can do it, so can YOU! πͺπΌ
School is NOT for you, so don't let it define your worth!
Before we jump into that, let's see... π
π How's the challenge?
π§ I finally understand the basics
The more I read, the clearer I start to see the picture. The whole business is based on 3 basic things, if you do these 3 things right, you will definitely make a living out of it. π
π¦ Have a good product that solves a real problem.
π₯ Have a well-defined target audience who have a real problem - which your product solves.
π¬ Have an easy-to-understand, specific message that your target audience understands and tries your product based on that.
And that's it! These are the basics you really need to get right, once you have these, then you can focus on the other extras, but these are the most important.
So now I've started a huge testing exercise with target audiences and messages. And Kokesz and Edu are developing the product to perfection! βοΈ
ποΈ The new Documentary is out
If you're also plagued by Overthinking, you have to watch this! (HUN) π€―
Now we can start... π
π Is school really bad?
Before we jump to any conclusions, let's look at how the education system as we know it today has evolved.
If you'd rather watch it on video, I'll link this one too (HUN):
We'll find more interesting things than you think...
The idea of the education system as we know it today was invented by John D Rockefeller. π€΅π½ββοΈ
All you need to know about him is that he used dubious business tricks to seize the entire oil market in America and build a complete monopoly. π’οΈ
Monopoly means: a company that has grown to the point where it has no competitors in the market. So, any way you can change the price, they will buy from you. In today's world, efforts are made to prevent this from happening, but we still hear many similar stories.
Just to see how much wealth Rockefeller was able to build from this:
π’οΈ John D Rockefeller's wealth: $460 Billion
-----------------------
π Elon Musk's wealth: $247 Billion
π Bernard Arnoultβs wealth: $176 Billion
What's gross is that the wealth of the 2 richest people in the world today is less than Rockefeller's wealth. Then you can imagine how rich he was...
However, people didn't like him because he was a mindless capitalist and exploited his workers. He also made some pretty interesting statements, like this one:
"I don't want a nation of thinkers; I want a nation of workers." ~ John D Rockefeller
After a while, so many people hated him that he realized he had to do something. Something that would give back to society and win over a lot of people. π€
That's when the idea of Free Education came along. Because at that time not everyone could afford to send their children to school. In the early 1900s, only 51% of children went to school, the rest were at home or at work. π
Free Education is good for everyone:
Good for the child, because they can learn useful things
It's good for parents, because their child can learn useful things for free
But, if it were that simple, Rockefeller would not have gotten where he was. He had much more original ideas. π
"Sure, it's good for society, but it's best if it's good for ME."
Then, in 1902, he founded the General Education Board - the creator of the modern-day education system - whose main purpose was to train workers who could work in his factories.
He saw it as the running of a factory:
π¨π½βπ« Teachers = Workers π·πΌββοΈ
π¦πΌ Students = Material to be worked π¦
π« School = Factory π
The point was to instill values in children at a young age that would make them better workers later on. These include patience, tolerance of monotony and obedience. It was also important to:
Everyone learns the same things
Everyone should have a basic knowledge
Do not question the system
Be busy all day so they don't have time to do anything else
Rockefeller had a very simple equation in mind:
More students = Fewer entrepreneurs = Fewer competitors π
π‘ Side note: But his plan wouldn't be so "genius" if it didn't have a little twist. Because at that time, it was still mostly men who worked, as mothers were in charge of the children. However, if the child went to school, the mother would stay at home "unnecessarily". So she can go to work too! Where to? To his factories!
However, before we condemn school as totally evil, it is important to say that school used to be a really good place. You learned things that you could use in life and if you did everything right you could work in a fair job, for a pretty good salary, for the rest of your life. So, it gave you a concrete career path. ππ»
π‘Side note: This is why our grandparents say school is good and that you should study because in their day it was really good and it was 'just' the way you got ahead. So they're not stupid, they just don't always realize that things change.
The problem is that the world has evolved a lot since then, but the education system hasn't. That's why you still have to memorize the names of planets, which you could otherwise Google in 5 seconds. πͺ
So, the clear aim was to educate workers and not entrepreneurs!
β οΈ DISCLAIMER:
I have nothing against factory workers, they can make a perfectly good living and I know several factory workers who live happy lives. It's just important to understand what school is trying to prepare you for!
But back to the topic...
Nowadays you can find almost anything on the internet, where the information is fresher and usually free. You can browse a lot of useful stuff, but also check the sources 2x, because anyone can say anything and it's hard to filter out credible people.
π‘ Side note: If you don't know English, make this the first and most important thing you learn. These days, English is essential! Around 98% of the information on the internet is in English, if you don't know English, you can only find your way around 2% of it, which is a huge disadvantage! So, if you don't speak English, make it your biggest priority now!
π A quick summary
The school is not bad, it's just outdated. βοΈ
I would not encourage anyone to drop out of high school because it teaches you to persevere. As much as you hate it, you can stick it out and graduation really does give you a sense of security. β
I'm not saying that school doesn't teach you anything, it just gives you a basic knowledge that needs a lot of improvement to be useful. Because if you just learn the same things as everyone else, you'll be like everyone else! π§
And finally, I'd like to end with a quote from Einstein. π‘
"Everyone is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by why it can't climb a tree, it will live its whole life being stupid." ~ Albert Einstein
Before we move on to the next part and show you how to get through school now and make the most of it...
Before that, a little trivia...
Did you know that: For every person you send the Blog to who subscribes you will receive gifts! And quite valuable ones at that:
1οΈβ£ Invited - π§ Guideline Targeting Ebook
3οΈβ£ invited - π Exclusive Workbook with Practical Tasks (with the most useful books I've read)
π invited - π₯ Self-confidence Course with 11 videos (showing you specifically how to be more confident in business, meeting people and making friends)
Thank you! π§‘
π§ How do you get through it?
You may find it hard to believe, but school can still be useful, just not necessarily for what you would expect.
It certainly gives you a basic knowledge, which is not a bad thing if you have it. But most of the basic knowledge is picked up in primary school. π¦πΌ
So, in terms of knowledge, it won't give you that much, but there are one or two subjects that are really useful for everyone:
π Mathematics
But there are a few things you can learn that are useful for mathβs.
Probability calculus
Calculating percentages
Trust me, you'll really use these in life, so it's worth learning them. I use them every day!
ππΊ Hungarian language
The main thing here is spelling, which I unfortunately used to be very bad at. I've improved a lot since then, but there's still plenty of room for improvement.
π¬π§ English language
Essential, if you only pay 100% attention to 1 lesson, it should be this one! Do your homework, learn the words you've been given and yes, get ready for class!
If you don't know English, you are at a huge disadvantage in today's world! It's like trying to start a race on one foot. You have a chance to win, but not much!
π Geography
Learning to map and identify countries is an essential skill. Wherever you travel, whoever you talk to, this topic will come up. And it's really embarrassing if you don't even know where India is or confuse it with Argentina... Yes, I've seen it happen.
You don't have to memorize every country, but you do know the major ones, know roughly where they are, what their flag is, what language they speak, etc.
Believe me, you will thank me!
βοΈ History
There is a lot to learn from history, and a lot of it is transferable to today's world.
I might add that I wasn't so studious about history back in the day, but my cousin is a historian and luckily, he helped me brush up on my knowledge!
You don't need to know everything, unnecessary dates, events, etc.
Just try to understand the context of What, what happened because of what? And believe me, it will be enough for life. Feel free to pick one or two topics that interest you and dive into them.
Once you've done that, let's look at the things that aren't formally taught in school, but can still be useful to you!
π€ Building relationships
You're surrounded by a lot of similar young people, 6-8 hours a day. Find students with similar interests and build new friendships!
It's good to have a network of friends you can count on.
π£ Communication
Since you're spending so much time inside, you can use this as an opportunity to improve your communication skills.
This could be body language analysis, voice inflection, persuasion, whatever. The point is to develop it consciously! For example, one of my acquaintances developed her body language recognition to a master level during school! For example, have you ever noticed that at the signal bell everyone leans forward a little and raises their heels? Well, that's because they are about to go!
π Book recommendation: 'How to Make Friends' by Dale Carnegie is a brilliant book on the basics. I would definitely start with this one. You'll find it in BookBase!
πBook Recommendation: "The Encyclopedia of Body Language" by Alan & Barbara Pease is a perfect introduction to non-verbal cues and how to interpret them. It was the first self-improvement book I read back in the day!
π If you don't want to rush back and forth with books, just start the Communication Challenge on BookBase, where I've sorted the books by difficulty!
π₯ Teamwork
At school, you may come across tasks that need to be done in a team: presentations, poster making, submissions, etc.
Practice teamwork during this time.
See who has what role in the team, who is the best at what?
Who is the best leader?
Why?
What can you learn from them?
How can you be one?
Do you even want to be one?
etc.
If you pay attention to these things at school, you will take away everything that can help you in real life! At the same time, it is important to note that I encourage everyone to at least do the A-Levels. Not because it is so useful, but more to show that you persevered and did it. πͺπΌ
The A-Levels are about perseverance and far from knowledge, you'd better take it from me!
However, I don't want to leave you in any doubt, so I've created a section where I share the Tips and Tricks, I've learned in 15 years of school! (primary + high school + university).
π§ Tips and Tricks
1. Pay attention in class π
I know it's really boring and it sucks. But, if you're there and you're locked in, at least use it! If you pay attention in class, you can easily understand 70% of the material.
Which means less studying at home and - voila - more free time!
If you pay attention, you can easily understand the context - if the teacher is good - so you don't have to memorize, just recall.
I have done many lessons this way, with minimal learning!
2. Learn straight after school π
If you have something left that you absolutely must learn, preferably do it straight after school!
That way your brain is still in the subject and it takes less energy to pay attention. Whereas, if you do something else and try to study in the evening, your brain is already tired and needs more energy to pay attention.
3. Try to understand the context π
Unfortunately, I could never study, my brain just wasn't up to it. Which was a blessing and a curse in itself! A blessing because I was always trying to understand the material and a curse because I had trouble remembering all the years.
If you understand the context, you can solve a lot of problems logically, be it chemistry, physics or even history!
So, try to understand the context! β And you can do this by paying attention in class!
This part alone is worth its weight in gold, but what if I also show you the perfect school?
π€© What would the perfect school look like?
You may remember it, but we won a joint podcast with Hormozi, which we've already dropped and you can watch it on our YouTube channel in 1-2 months. π§π»ββοΈ
Anyway, I asked him too...
What would be the perfect school for him? π€
And she gave a very exciting answer!
She said that the most important thing is to teach students to learn first.
These he called "meta skills". Because if we know how to learn, it will be much easier and we can acquire more knowledge in the same amount of time! π§
π Challenge Recommendation: I have put together a separate Challenge for this very reason within BookBase. "Excellent Learner", where you'll find the best books on this topic, sorted in order.
If you'd like to watch it on video, I'll link to my perfect teaching system here (HUN):
Once this is in place, young people need to be taught skills that they can easily use in real life. πͺπΌ
These include:
Communication
Creative Thinking
Problem solving
Problem Solving Problem Solving Using New Technologies
Empathy
Flexibility and Adaptability
Maintaining Awareness and Motivation
Objectives
Productivity
And there are many more. Of course, some of the subjects I mentioned above would also be included! Because they are really useful! π
Fortunately, there are already initiatives like this online and offline:
Khan Academy, where students can study and take exams online.
In Eger, there is Mozaik Suli, where young people can learn very similar things.
There is also BookBase, but it is not a formal school. It teaches you things that school doesn't, but are still important in life.
π‘ Side note: I used to think of several names for BookBase, one was School of Life and another was Level Up. Both suggested that this system was an education for life!
In short, this is what the perfect education system would look like, and I sincerely hope that in my lifetime we will reach a point where children really do go to school and are educated to do really useful things. π¨π½βπ«
I will certainly do my best to make that happen! ππ»
π₯ Biggest obstacle
Incorporating all the stuff you've read and putting together an amazing user experience that people say "WOW, I can't believe this!". π²
We've achieved this a few times with personalized video greetings. The goal now is to make this a process and not just once, but regularly amaze our users!
I'll post any extreme ideas here and then see how it could still be done. For example, how about if after you sign up for BookBase, a few days later you physically receive the book you read for the first time. And it would have a message inside:
"Congratulations, this book started you on the path of self-improvement!
You've seen the path, it's time to follow it!Good luck!
KristΓ³f
Yes, I think that surprised a few people, "Wow, I didn't expect that!". π±
If you have any ideas here, feel free to reply to me via email or in a comment! βοΈ
I've already made a pattern that I've started to add to. The next step is to finish this and go over it with some power users, how they see it, what would they improve? π
π What have I read now?
Still reading "Never Lose a Customer Again" by Joey Coleman. Somehow, it's much longer than I expected, as there's a lot of useful information in it when I just put the book down and start thinking about it. But in the end, the best books are the ones that make you think! π
π§ What have I just listened to?
Lots of Naval Ravikant podcasts, I've gone through about 6 hours now, but it was brilliant, I learned something different from each one. β³
"Money won't solve all your problems, but your financial problems will!"
"You need to focus on having a good product and a good audience to help."
βπΌ Top quote
"It matters less what you learn in school, it matters what you learn outside of school."
