π New Mini Documentary: Truth About Money - Part II.
β° This is how long it took to write: 9 hours 2 minutes
Do you know the feeling when everyone is against you?
Family, friends, maybe even your partner.
At least it feels like it...
It's hard to make a good decision in such a situation, in order to please everyone. π
And I haven't even mentioned your own problems!
The daily stress and pressure to conform is compounded by the inability to make decisions.
Right? Don't tell me... π€¦π½ββοΈ
It's hard to perform 100% in a situation like this.
When you enter the world of work, these questions quickly arise:
Should I be an entrepreneur or an employee?
Should I move or stay?
Do I want to move or stay or work? π€·π½ββοΈ
Can I plan with my partner?
I bet you've been asking yourself the same questions.
Of course, all of this comes with a lot of stress, because you have the devil on your shoulder, constantly chanting in your ear:
"Will you make the right decision?" π
I know, making good decisions is hard...
Or so it seems!
But by the end of the post, I promise you'll understand what the truth is!
But before that, let's see...
π How's the challenge?
𫨠The App is vibrating
Kokesz has added vibrancy to Onboarding, making the experience even more premium.
If people like it there, we'll add it to menus and a few buttons within App.
This has mostly a psychological impact.
Because it stimulates your brain and makes you feel good.
π‘ Side note: Bugsy has one of those ADHD games on his phone, I don't know what it's called. The idea is that you have to do infinitely simple tasks, like turning a wheel. But the phone keeps vibrating and no joke, even I got sucked in.
π₯οΈ The Webapp is officially in Beta
The guys put in a serious sprint to get this together, but you can finally tell that you're getting the SAME experience on the Web as you are on the App.
You can log in at this link if you have an active membership: LINK
π€ Kokesz has redesigned the reading page
He looked at exactly which spacing and spacing is most ideal for the eye.
This will make it much easier and more comfortable to read.
Let's be honest that big "vomited" text was not the friendliest.
But you know, better finished than perfect.
Because you can improve a post later! π
π¬π§ Distinguishing English books
Some people have written that it would be nice if English books were translated into Hungarian.
And that's when my head snapped up:
"What?!" π€¨
Because there is no book that is in English but not in Hungarian.
Then Kokesz came up with a way to distinguish English books from Hungarian ones, so there would be less misunderstanding.
From now on there will be a little flag in the corner of every cover.
Great, now we can start! π₯
π Why are there so many decisions in your 20s?
It's what's known in the trade as gate-opening panic.
The meaning of gate-opening panic is: the person struggling with it has difficulty finding their own way, not knowing how to become the independent adult they want to be, due to external and/or internal expectations.
Dropping out of school.
You leave the parental nest and are faced with a lot of difficult decisions. πͺ
And maybe you haven't made any really hard choices yet.
After all, you've waited for mummy, daddy, to decide and tell you the right answer.
So the "muscles" responsible for the decision are not strengthened. π€
Ergo you can't make a responsible, logical decision on your own.
Because you have never made one.
Two things can happen:
π °οΈ You can make a decision that "ahh whatever I'm going to do, just get it over with". πββοΈ
This usually happens less often.
- π ±οΈ As opposed to when you keep putting off making a decision as long as you can.
A lot of procrastination happens because you are afraid of the consequences of your decision. π«’
And your brain supports you in this, because:
"You are not doing anything wrong by not making the decision."
But unfortunately... this is an orbital mistake! π«
Because not making the decision is a decision in itself!
Because you have chosen not to choose.
π‘ Side note: I know, it's a bit philosophical, but you'll soon understand.
And most of the time, not making a decision will result in you continuing to stew in one place. πΆ
Also, it is a cognitive bias to think you need time to make a big decision.
However, here you don't need time, you need information to make the decision! π€·ββοΈ
"Ahh KristΓ³f, what information are you talking about?"
I know I know I've been "telling" you, but I'm going to show you some techniques that YOU can use to strengthen your decision-making muscle. π«΅
First and foremost, try to gather as much information as possible to make an informed decision.
You can do this in several ways. π
You can get it from people who have already made the decision you are facing.
So, you can ask for their opinion. β
This way you don't have to waste time looking for similar information.
β οΈ Important: Get the opinions of people who are similar to the future you want to become. After all, if you ask and listen to the wrong people, your life could go in the wrong direction!
And there's the greatest treasure of the 21st century right in front of you...
The internet. π
You wouldn't believe how much valuable and useful information you can gather if you use it properly.
And then there's BookBase, which contains only the essentials of books. π
Saving you a lot of time!
Before we dive into the solution, a quick look ahead...
This newsletter only grows organically, which means that the only way to get more people to read my writing is if you find it valuable and send it to 1-2 people you know.
I'm doing it all so that I can help as many young people as possible by sharing my experiences and thereby create a better world for ourselves.
Not to forget, you will also receive valuable gifts after the invitations! π
Thank you if you help with a forward! π§‘
π§ How can you make your decisions with ease?
Here are 3 techniques to help you make the tough decisions.
1. Pros and cons βοΈ
When faced with a difficult decision take a piece of paper + a pen and sit down.
On the left side of the paper, write down the positive things that come with making the decision.
On the right side, write the negative things. π«
This way you will see what will happen when you make that particular decision.
Because most decisions involve giving up.
So, when you make a decision, you should expect to give up something else.
"Just like you can't go north and south at the same time."
"You can achieve anything, but you can't achieve everything." ~ Jordan Peterson
π Pro tip: Also, look at how the decision you make will affect you in the long run - your next 1-2 years. Both positively and negatively.
Many people only think short term. π§
Like when you make a decision quickly and see what positive things it will lead to.
But you don't think about how it will affect you in 1-2 years. β³
It might go totally against what you had imagined for yourself.
2. Your 8-year-old and 80-year-old self π¦πΌπ΅πΌ
π Book recommendations: I read this in Derek Sivers' book "How to Live" back in the day. Brilliant little book that gives you 27 life paths to live your life by. You can find it summarized in the App, in Hungarian! π§
There is a saying that you have to make 2 people happy in your life...
Your 8-year-old self and your 80-year-old self. π€
Your 8-year-old self because you couldn't think logically and you dared to dream.
You could imagine anything and you honestly believed it was possible. π
And your 80-year-old self because you'll be lying on your bed rewinding the movie of your life.
Thinking about all the things you didn't do. β
And the things you didn't do, it'll be too late...
The most important thing here is to live a life that you can look back on with no regrets and that you did every single thing you wanted to do, even if it was fearfully.
If you have a difficult decision, like should I go to university or not? π€
Then look at what your 8-year-old self-wanted to be?
Let's say you wanted to be a doctor. π¨ββοΈ
To become a doctor, you have to go to university.
Logical right?
And now think about your 80-year-old self who always wanted to be a doctor but didn't finish university. π«
Then you'd pretty much regret it if you didn't finish university.
Ergo, it's worth going to university because you'll make your 8- and 80-year-old self-proud. βΊοΈ
3. Mental roundtable βοΈ
π Book recommendations: It even appeared once in the book "Think and Grow Rich". Napoleon Hill was a great believer in such exercises. You'll find a summary of it in BookBase. π§
Here you will use your subconscious mind.
Because in your subconscious, you have all the information you have ever consumed.π¨
Literally EVERYTHING!
Conversations, movies you've watched, books you've read, everything that's happened to you.
And now you have to pull it up. π§
Relax, this isn't some woo-woo.
It really works, I've used it. π‘
π₯³ Fun fact: BookBase as an app was born out of a roundtable discussion like this.
If you have a problem, like: should I go to university?
Close your eyes, calm down a bit and imagine a round table where YOU are there and imagine people you look up to who you think can help you make that decision. π
If one of your role models is Elon Musk, imagine him there!
But they can also be ordinary people...
For example, I have my grandfather, who I still look up to do this day. π΄
Imagine the 3 or 4 of you sitting at the round table.
Ask them your question and let your brain answer that question from their perspective. β
It may seem harsh at first. But as you get used to the weird feeling, it becomes normal.
The rough part is that your subconscious will logically explain things from their point of view that you knew all along, but couldn't say or do.
Just as I probably knew that BookBase was supposed to be an app. π±
Not a website.
But as long as I didn't think about it from someone else's point of view, the thought didn't occur to me. π«
π‘ Side note: Yes, it will be really weird at first, but try to put that "gassy" feeling down and just try it out. If you don't like it, you can always stop.
Now that the 3 techniques are over, it's time for a Pro tip.
π Pro tip: Don't sit on a decision for too long!
The longer you sit on it, the harder it will be to make, so you fall into analysis paralysis.
Analysis Paralysis means: a state of overanalyzing a situation. It means that the decision maker thinks too much and becomes indecisive.
It's best, if you feel you have the information you need to make a decision, to make it now! π«΅
Here's an example: If I have to make a difficult decision, I set a deadline for when the decision has to be made.
I usually give it a week and, in that week, I focus on gathering as much information as possible to make the decision. π
Either way, I have to make the decision before the deadline!
Once I've made the decision, I try to tell as many people I know as possible, as this way I'll be committed to my decision and there's much less chance of me changing my mind. π€
I don't want to make a fool of myself.
It's important to understand that a bad decision is better than no decision. βοΈ
Because you can still make it right, unlike a no decision where you haven't even given yourself the chance.
Once you understand these things, then you're ready for the usual...
β What exactly do you do?
[ ] First, take out a sheet of paper and write down all the decisions you have to make in the next semester. π
[ ] Step two, prioritize them. π
[ ] Step three, give each one a week in your calendar, set a time limit for how long you have to make the decision. ποΈ
[ ] Step four, in that one week, try to gather as much information as you can to make a decision. From talks, BookBase, videos. The point is to get as much information as possible! π
[ ] Step 5, look at the positive and negative sides of the decision, a year from now. β³
[ ] Step six, see which of your 8- and 80-year-old self would be happy with the decision. π¦πΌπ΅πΌ
[ ] Step seven, try looking at your decision with the mental round table. β»οΈ
[ ] Step eight, make your decision. π«΅
[ ] Step nine, commit to the decision and tell three people you know what you have decided. π₯
[ ] Step ten, repeat with all the items in your list. π
I truly believe this method will make your life easier, as it has changed mine. π
Just in case, let me know in the comments if it helped! π
π₯ Biggest obstacle
Re-reading April Dunford's masterpiece "Obviously Awesome" for help on how to position your product in the marketplace. π§©
Wasn't it until now:
"The Spotify of self-improvement"
Which I still like, but I think we could do better.
So, I'm starting the whole process over and trying to come up with something better. π
I'm lucky enough to have the answers to the questionnaire already, I just need to put them together into something useful.
I am increasingly seeing the importance of Positioning.
Just think if we said "YouTube of Self Improvement".
Then you would rightly assume basic features that aren't in the BookBase. E.g.: Playlists, Watch later, etc.
Therefore, it is preferable to put BookBase in a category where it fits in based on features, but still stands out. Perhaps this is the hardest part, as there are not many such Apps in Hungary. ππΊ
Anyway, you'll see as soon as I'm done with it! π
π·πΌββοΈ Fix It Friday
There was a bug on android that swapped the books you had read with the books you hadn't read yet.
Edu fixed it quickly. βοΈ
Also, there's a major update package coming soon with quite a few fixes! π
π What have I just read?
I finished "High Output Management" by Andy Grove. Brutally useful book, although a bit still out of context for us. It's more about how to run a big company, but I still managed to take a few things away from it. π’
I read Simon Sinek's little book on inspiration "Together Everything is Better" I got through it in 27 minutes and it gave me some valuable thoughts. π€
One of my favorites: "Success is nothing more than when reality is similar to what we imagined."
Or rather, on Tuesday I flipped through 3 books because I was looking for a solution to a particular obstacle:
π€© Hacking Growth - by Sean Ellis (TOP book on startups)
π₯΄ Managing Startups - O'Reilly (totally useless)
π The Startup Method - Eric Ries (not bad, but not written for us)
Now I'm reading "The 5 Levels of Leadership" by John C. Maxwell, which has already sucked me in. Maxwell is a pioneer in this segment and has written a completely practical book on how to become better leaders. πͺπΌ
π Book recommendation: I recommend it to anyone who wants to become a GOOD leader. It's also up on BookBase where you can quickly get the gist of it. π§
π§ What did I just listen to?
I didn't have much time to listen right now this week, but I did check out 1 video anyway. β
I like Simon Squibb for his purpose. He is a genuinely good person who wants to help others. Helpbnk was also his initiative!
